Duck Stab/Buster and Glen is by far the most concise and song oriented release by the group. Most of the tracks feature a length and structure similar to your average rock or pop radio song from the era. Cuts like “Blue Rosebuds” and “Hello Skinny” have catchy melodies of the vocal and instrumental variety. That, however, does not mean these tracks are light and fluffy. This is still the Residents, and it is still both a mind boggling and thought provoking listening experience.

I will say that out of any Residents release I have heard, this one seems to have the darkest overall tone to it. It is a mood that suits them well. This record is also a very good spotlight for the late and oh so great Snake finger. His guitar playing, and also his violin work shine on many tracks. I think perhaps his finest moment being “Sinister Exaggerator”

All in all, I would say that this album is smashing success and one of my favourites by the guys with the eyes. It also may serve as the best possible introduction to the group, if you have always been curious to give The Residents a listen or two
